Pride Campaign Objectives (SMART Goals)
This is the first attempt at pulling together ToC, SMART objectives and monitoring methods and metrics all in one document

Our campaign will ensure the health of the world’s 3rd largest coral reef by working with local fishers and communities to protect juvenile fish species by eliminating the use of beach seine nets and the practice of poison fishing.

Lessons from the crisis in Madagascar, an interview with Erik Patel
• [Erik Patel: an expert on the Critically Endangered Silky Sifaka and frequent visitor to Madagascar]
• The unrest and confusion that usually accompanies such a coup brought disaster on many of Madagascar's biological treasures.
• Within days of Ravalomanana's resignation, armed gangs, allegedly funded by Chinese traders, entered two of Madagascar's world-renowned national parks, Marojejy and Masoala parks, and began to log rosewood, ebonies, and other valuable hardwoods.
o Selective logging of precious wood in Madagascar, such as rosewood, is known to be accompanied by increases in fire and hunting.
• The pillaging lasted months. Park rangers were forced to leave their posts and parks were officially closed.
Despite the generally bad news about fishery stocks, there is some good news. Around the world fisheries managment techniques are allowing fish stocks to rebound. One of the great things about fish is that in the right conditions their population can grow rapidly over a short period of time (I suppose that happens when you lay millions of eggs!).
Some of the solutions are currently being considered by many of the Rare Pride campaigns launched with Rare's partners around the globe. Thanks for all their hard work!!
The article discusses how the world's fisheries can be sustainable.
• According to the most recent report on the status of the world's fisheries by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, fisheries supply at least 15% of the animal protein consumed by humans, provide direct and indirect employment for nearly 200 million people worldwide and generate $US85 billion annually.
• This same report indicates that 28% of the world's fisheries stocks are currently being overexploited or have collapsed and 52% are fully exploited.

dataentry for site survey has been completed and data analysed (see custom report enclosed). What is missing is a summary of the results
latest:
enclosed the final questionnaire survey pro file. Data entry is still underway
previous
The enclosed questionnaire is still a draft and needs finalizing. Also the target site scope needs finalizing. Further enclosed is a qualitative survey that Gildas has prepared to inform the quantitative survey.
This is the 3rd Bravo that Gildas does and it relates to the enforcement of the Dina. A few details need to be confirmed/specifyed before the BRAVo can be approved. In particular:
- political acceptability of enforcement strategy with migratory people
- gear exchange details
- some information of economics of beach seining and poison fishing
- what is the likely conservation impact if the strategy is succesful
- what is the likely consequence of the enforcement on the migratory people and farmers
The threat ranking has been amended following the revision of the concept model
draft 2: This is a good start. The concept model now needs to be revised to make it more complete and specific.
Draft 3: Enclosed a further revision dating 22 May
