BROP Report - June 2010 (Halimun NP/RMI/Advocacy for community input into zonation recommendation)

This report covered the period of September 2009 - June 2010.

Through the barrier removal strategy, RMI (LAP) has gone through the challenge in building trust and positive communication between community members and Park authority. Series of meeting and negotiation were conducted to reach out to the farmers in Nyuncung and Parigi sub-villages (Nanggung Sub-districts), Park authority, as well as the decision makers in Forestry Department at National level. One of the initial main challenge was lack of understanding in the meaning of "collaboration" terminology for forest/park management, both at community and park staffs level. The use of marketing and communication material and activities (SMS blast, poster, collaborative theater, etc) has been able to bring the stakeholder to understand this terminology in the context of better park management with community participation.
