Adam Murray's Public Profile

About Me

Adam originally trained in Zoology at the University of Sheffield. He then went on to work as a volunteer in Thailand. It was here that he began working with gibbons and the local people from the area. Adam then went on to work briefly as a zookeeper at Monkey World: Ape Rescue Centre. Here he established his dynamic skills in public speaking. Adam then went on to complete a MSc in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University. It was here where he developed the understanding and passion for education in conservation. These theories and skills were then put into practice when Adam became an education officer at Marwell Zoo. This involved everything from formally teaching four year olds up to adults, covering curriculum based subjects such as animal behaviour, conservation, and even marketing. The job also involved graphic design, working with local stakeholders and media groups, practical conservation of native species and organizing regional environmental education workshops.  Since 2006 Adam has worked at Rare, originally based at the English training centre at the University of Kent in the UK. He has worked on many social marketing conservation campaigns from central Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. As a Regional Program Manager he has now moved to Fiji and is involved in both teaching the Rare Pride Campaign Managers and then supporting them whilst they carry out the 2 year long community based campaigns. Past campaigns have looked at changing levels of knowledge, attitude and ultimately behaviour change. They have targeted issues from illegal bushmeat hunting and over fishing to solid waste management and invasive species.

Campaign T-Shirt

This T-shirt is to act on the emotions and pride of the Guam communities - acting in attitudinal objectives for teh campaign. These T-shirts and deisgn style are popular in the shops in Guam and gets to the roots of the Chamorro (indigenous people) pride in their natural resources.

The t-shirt is aimed at communities in the south of Guam and within these communities we will also find hunters - our primary target audience.

New Bus Design Draft

This is the new design for the buses that travel across Margie's site. There are only a few buses that travel around and the good thing is that they have a monopoly on use and location. There is one bus that daily travels from south to north in the Macuata Province and then a few that travel between the two campaign provinces as well. A great position for promotion materials.

The Highs & Lows of "Fiji Time"

There are 2 distinct time zones on this small island group: GMT + 12 & “Fiji Time”. Having lived here for the past 8 months I am still coming to terms with this, both for work & play, and as always there are 2 sides to this particular coin.
