CONANP identifies and protects Mexico's natural areas and collaborates with the national government which provides funding to these 158 areas. Of this protected natural areas, 67 are national parks, 35 are biosphere reserves, 29 are protected flora & fauna areas, 17 are nature sanctuaries, 6 are protected natural resource areas, and 4 are natural monuments.
