Once you have created your account on RarePlanet, you cannot change your username. Sorry.

Follow these steps to change your RarePlanet account password:

  1.  From your Profile or "My RarePlanet  Home" page, click the " My Settings Tab".
  2. Select the Edit My Account Info link
  3. Scroll down the page a little bit to the "Password" fields.
  4. Type your new password in the "Password:" field.
  5. Retype your password in the "Confirm password:" field.
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Submit" button.

Note: If you ever forget your password, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the site homepage, RarePlanet.org.
  2. Click “Login” on the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Click the “Request New Password ” tab.
  4. Type your Rare e-mail address in the form.
  5. Follow the steps in the e-mail you receive.

All profiles are publicly viewable by anyone on the Web. You do not have to be a member of RarePlanet to view content on the site. If you want to contribute content (post a forum message, blog comment, etc.) you must be a member of the site and logged in.

  1. Navigate to the "Camapaigns" page (link in the navigation bar at the top of any page on the site).
  2. From the main Campaign page, you can browse through campaigns. When you are ready to follow one, click on the campaign name.
  3. Once you are on the Campaign's site, click the "Follow this Campaign" link on the upper right side of the page.
  4. Confirm by clicking the "follow" button. 
  5. You will recieve updates on this campaign via your My RarePlanet page and feed.

Groups are divided into two types:

1) Public

2) Private

To join a public group:

  1. Navigate to the 'Community' then "Groups" page (link in the navigation bar at the top of any page on the site).
  2. From the main Groups page, you can browse through groups. When you are ready to join one, click on the group name.
  3. Once you are on the group's page, click the "Join Group" link on the upper right side of the page.
  4. Confirm joining the group by clicking the "join" button.  

To join a private group:

  1. You must be invited by the group moderator.
  2. When you are invited, you will receive an invitation via e-mail to the group.
  3. Click on the link in the e-mail to be taken to the private group page and confirm your participation in the group.

A Note About Private Groups:

  • Private groups are not listed on the Groups page.
  • All private groups are hidden from public view.

Flagging an item for moderator review allows you to draw our attention to information that is inappropriate or incorrect.    Click on “Flag for Moderator Review” and a Rareplanet administrator will moderate it.   Guidelines for content and Behavior

  1. Violates or infringes the rights of others including, without limitation, patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, publicity or other proprietary rights.
  2. Is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, deceptive, fraudulent, invasive of another's privacy, tortuous, or contains explicit or graphic descriptions, or accounts of, sexual acts or violence
  3. Victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of religion, gender, political views, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, or disability.
  4. Impersonates any person, business or entity, including RarePlanet or Rare and its employees and agents.
  5. Encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, or that gives rise to civil liability.
  6. Violates these terms of use, guidelines or any policy posted on RarePlanet.
  7. Interferes with the use of RarePlanet by others.

There are a couple of different ways to include images with blog posts.  There is a image upload button below the text editor that will upload an image to the side of your text entry.  This is a simple way to include photos.

There is an alternative way to include images that will allow you to embed the images along with text, as this FAQ is designed.  The image below displays both options.

If you select the option to have images appear inline with the text, you will see the following options after selecting the button with the picture of a mountain.  Follow the steps below..

Copying content from Microsoft Word can be very problematics as it will insert many un-necessary tags into your blog post.  You can avoid this by using the Paste from Word button on the toolbar as displayed below.  Simply select the content from your word document, copy the content, select the Paste from Word button from the editor and then paste (Control + V on most computers).  It is highly recommended you format your blog post on the site rather than Word.
