Community Guidelines

Think of these guidelines as a mild interpretation of the Terms of Use.

RarePlanet’s Purpose

The purpose of RarePlanet is to support grassroots efforts to build constituencies for conservation around the world by supporting active dialog among Rare’s current and former course managers, local partners, global partners and their constituencies. Members of RarePlanet are given the tools, support and encouragement to achieve the following goals:

 

  1. Reduce threats to the environment through collaborative problem solving.
  2. Enhance conservation organization efforts by leveraging online collaboration and transparency.
  3. Produce measurable results of conservation campaigns that can be shared, improved and duplicated in deserving locations throughout the world.

Online Behavior and Etiquette

Members want to promote their ideas, receive answers to tough conservation questions and collaborate on solutions every day on RarePlanet. The following behaviors will not be tolerated:

  • Spamming
  • Cloning usernames
  • Flame wars (attacking someone’s credibility or social standing).
  • Deceptive practices (i.e., phishing scams)
  • Profanity or any form of hate speech
  • Inappropriate multimedia (i.e., nudity or sexually suggestive material)
  • Personal attacks, threats or impersonation of other members, experts, public figures or RarePlanet staff
  • Advertisements for a business

 

Member-Generated Content

When posting your own content, RarePlanet prefers you keep things "safe for primetime," meaning, if you would not see or hear it on network television between the hours of 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, you may not want to post it here.

Legal Implications

No behavior by members on RarePlanet which is against United States law or the laws of your own country will be tolerated. Also, behavior which is against the Terms of Use is not acceptable.

Reporting Innapropriate Content

It is each user's responsibility to moderate the comments, photos, video, etc., posted by other members of the RarePlanet service. RarePlanet has created tools so that you can report inappropriate content to the community manager. If you need assistance with a specific problem, please e-mail admin@rareplanet.org
