Being in the main street at 5:30 in a cold Sunday morning is not my usual thing during weekends. But today is not any other usual Sunday.
Today is special, beside from being the 1st Day of the week long celebration of Tagbilaran City Charter Day, more importantly today is 2nd Run for Mabaw Reef.
This is to share with you the updates of the on-going mural painting in partnership with the University of Bohol College of Fine Arts and the University of Bohol Development Foundation.
The ongoing mural painting will be featuring Mabi as a warrior, a fishwarden, a policeman, a fisher,a snorkel guide and a local people. This idea came about after working with the University of Bohol College of Architecture. Prestesting has been done to solicit comments and to further improve these plates and most importantly the message that Mabi's going to convey through these charactirization.
The National Schools Maintenance Week also called as Brigada Eskwela is a kick- off activity of the Department of Education (DepEd) was held last May 21, 2012. This hoped to help public schools prepare for the opening of classes in the month of June. Enjoined the whole community and several government agencies and private corporations, Mabi is one of the invitees to create more life, fun and excitement to the annual observance. A motorcade at 8:00 a.m. starting from Manga Elementary School to Ubujan, Taloto, Booy Elementary Schools and other Elementary schools in Tagbilaran where the cleanup drive also took place. The good side of it was Mabi’s presence putting the Mabaw Reef Marine Sanctuary conservation initiatives to the entirety of the events. The City Coucilor Lucille Lagunay highlighted in her speech the ongoing conservation program while having Mabi on the center stage.
The first 50-Miler Ultra Marathon was held last May 20, 2012 starting from municipality of Panglao going to Tagbilaran and ended at the Chocolate Hills in the municipality of Carmen. More than 200 runners coming from Tagbilaran, and others from provinces in the country who joined the race with the theme that promoted the province’s prime tourism destination Chocolate Hills and the Mabaw Reef Marine Sanctuary. Hon. Doni Piquero, the Mabaw Reef TWG chairperson opened the race along with a video presentation about Mabaw Reef and no less than charismatic mascot Mabi. The race aims to help the promote Bohol prime tourisn destination and to popularize the Mabaw Reef Pride Campaign.
The brain behind Consuelo Foundation is considered as the first group that interacts with the Mabaw Reef ManCom since it was organized on August 12, 2011. The visit that happened last April 28, must be a memorable experience as most of ManCom shared information about what they are doing to manage the protected area especially on social marketing and governance activities. They visitors also interestingly shared information about what the foundation’s thrust and what it currently does in the Philippines in realm of social development.
