Threats to People and the Environment.
Photographs by Jason Houston

Logging of tropical hardwoods threatens critical forest habitats along the Río San Juan, Nicaragua.

often the cheapest option for local construction like this new building
in El Castillo. Fastgrowing plantation trees offer alternatives that
are both economical and more environmentally sustainable.
